An Invoice Failed to Create

A document that doesn't reach Xero was rejected, not delayed. Xero returns a reason, and it appears in Sync History.

In order of likelihood

No Xero account code on a product. The most common cause. Either set the code on the product, or set a default in Sync settings so products without one still post somewhere valid.

The Xero contact doesn't exist or isn't linked. Step 1 of the wizard showing 0 found means matching hasn't run — see account matching.

A required field is empty. Xero requires dates and amounts. A mapping that leaves one blank fails at Xero rather than in Salesforce.

Tax rate mismatch. A rate that doesn't exist in Xero can't be applied. Rates are Xero-controlled — see Tax rates.

A closed accounting period. Xero rejects documents dated into a locked period. Change the date or unlock the period in Xero.

The plan doesn't include the document type. For quotes and purchase orders the wizard says You are not subscribed to the [feature] feature and stops. Invoices aren't feature-gated. See Licence and subscription errors.

No line items, or every price is zero

These two look like data problems and almost never are:

• "No line items came from the source record" — the wizard is using the wrong field-mapping set for that document type.
• Every unit price shows A$0.00, with "The total must be greater than zero to save" — same cause.

Each document type has its own mapping set (invoices, quotes, purchase orders and repeating invoices are separate). Check which set the button passes before investigating products, prices or Xero account codes — see Mapping fields.

Working through it

1. Read the error on the record, in the Debug Log Viewer, or by running the Self Diagnosis Tool on that invoice — Xero's message usually names the field
2. Fix the cause on the record or in the configuration
3. Push it again with Send To Xero — see Send To Xero and Resync
4. Confirm it in Xero
