Your First 15 Minutes
Start here. A working setup is about fifteen minutes, and this is the whole path in the right order — every step links to the article that covers it in detail.
Setup comes in two halves, and they mirror the two numbered sequences in the configuration menu. First you set up the Salesforce org: install, connect, and get access and layouts right. Then you set up each Xero organisation: what syncs, in which direction, and bringing your history across.
Part 1 — Set up the Salesforce org
- Install from the AppExchange into a sandbox or production org
- Connect your Xero organisation — an OAuth handshake with Xero
- Check the Connected App is configured — green means nothing to do
- Organisation-wide settings — sync frequency and tax defaults, applied across every connected Xero org
- Manage users — and assign the right permission set to each person
- Manage page layouts — put the components on the records your team already uses
Part 2 — Set up each Xero organisation
- Sync settings — direction, defaults and which contact types to sync
- Object settings — which records flow between the two systems
- Run the historical sync to pull your existing Xero data across
- Start the ongoing sync — it can't be started until the historical sync is done
- Run the matching tool to link existing Accounts to Xero contacts
Connecting more than one Xero organisation?
Part 1 is done once for the Salesforce org. Part 2 repeats for every Xero organisation you connect — each has its own settings, its own historical sync and its own matching run. See Connecting additional Xero organisations.
Once it's running
- Customise your field mapping if the defaults don't carry everything you need — and to raise documents from objects other than Opportunities
- Coming from another connector? Run the migration tool so your existing records keep their links to Xero rather than starting fresh
